Senior Digital Marketing Manager - Search Lead

Role Overview

The Senior Digital Marketing Manager - Search Lead is responsible for defining and delivering high-performing search strategies across SEO, GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation), Social Search and organic visibility for Optix and its clients.

This role owns the quality, consistency, and evolution of search delivery. You are accountable for ensuring search strategies align with client objectives, deliver measurable commercial impact, and reflect best practice across both traditional and emerging search environments.

You will act as the subject matter expert for search, leading both internally and externally. This includes setting direction, supporting the development of the team, and ensuring search integrates effectively with Paid Media, Content, and wider marketing strategies.

Alongside channel leadership, you will operate as a Senior Digital Marketing Manager, contributing to strategic planning, supporting client growth, and ensuring delivery meets performance, commercial, and client experience expectations, working closely with Client Services who retain ownership of the client relationship.

This is a hybrid role, we have a flexible approach to working from home with an expectation for weekly office attendance.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Search Strategy & Performance Ownership

  • Define and lead SEO, GEO and Social Search strategies across client accounts.

  • Ensure strategies align with client business objectives and measurable KPIs.

  • Translate search opportunities into clear, prioritised action plans.

  • Own performance outcomes across rankings, traffic, engagement, and conversions.

  • Continuously refine strategies based on performance data and search trends.

 

2. Technical SEO, Content & On-Page Excellence

  • Lead technical SEO direction, including site health, indexation, and performance optimisation.

  • Conduct and oversee keyword research, competitor analysis, and SEO audits.

  • Ensure content strategies align with search intent and demand.

  • Collaborate with Content, Design, and Development teams to embed SEO best practice from the outset.

  • Maintain high standards across on-page optimisation, internal linking, and site structure.

 

3. Data, Reporting & Insight-Led Optimisation

  • Own interpretation of search performance data and translate it into actionable insights.

  • Ensure accurate tracking, measurement, and reporting across all search activity.

  • Deliver clear, concise reporting focused on performance, impact, and next steps.

  • Validate data quality and ensure decisions are based on reliable, consistent data.

  • Use data to drive continuous improvement across strategy and delivery.

 

4. Client Strategy, Communication & Account Leadership

  • Work closely with Client Services to support the strategic direction of client accounts.

  • Provide search expertise in client meetings, Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), and annual planning sessions.

  • Communicate complex search concepts in a clear and commercially relevant way to day to day contacts and key external stakeholders.

  • Identify and support upsell opportunities across search and integrated services.

  • Contribute to a proactive, insight-led approach to client growth and performance.

 

5. Cross-Channel Integration & Strategic Thinking

  • Ensure search is integrated into wider Digital Marketing strategies.

  • Collaborate with Strategy, Paid Media, Social and creative teams to deliver joined-up campaigns.

  • Contribute to broader digital strategy across accounts.

  • Support development of full-funnel strategies aligned to commercial outcomes.

 

6. Team Development & Search Leadership

  • Act as the internal lead for SEO, GEO and Social Search, supporting and developing team capability.

  • Provide QA, guidance, and support on search deliverables.

  • Share knowledge, best practice, and updates across the team.

  • Deliver internal training sessions to upskill the team in SEO, GEO, and evolving search practices.

  • Create and maintain training materials, frameworks, and documentation.

  • Support adoption of new tools, techniques, and approaches within search and data.

 

7. Innovation, AI & Industry Leadership

  • Stay up to date with search trends, algorithm updates, and emerging technologies.

  • Lead the development of GEO, Social Search and AI-driven search offerings within the agency.

  • Identify opportunities to evolve Optix’s approach to search and organic visibility.

  • Deliver talks, workshops, and training sessions (in-person and online) to position yourself and Optix as leaders in GEO and Search strategy.

  • Represent Optix externally through events, webinars, and thought leadership opportunities.

  • Contribute to Optix’s own marketing and external presence in search.

  •  Support and develop team members through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.

  • Contribute to improving standards, processes, and consistency across the department.

 

Account Management

  • Support client servicing to manage clients alongside delivery across accounts where required where an account manager cannot be assigned to maintain performance and service levels.

 

Client Delivery

  • Support delivery of projects and retainers within your expertise when required to maintain service levels.

  • Contribute to wider marketing activity and strategy beyond search (SEO/GEO/ Social Search) when needed.

 

Business Contribution

  • Support new business opportunities where search expertise is required.

  • Contribute to internal initiatives, process improvements, and agency growth.
