Mia joined Optix Solutions last summer as a Digital Marketing Executive Intern. As a student at the University of Exeter, Mia has been completing a work experience year with us. With a passion for social media and design, Mia has assisted us on various internal and external projects, successfully managed multiple social media accounts and executed social media strategies.
Since Mia joined team Optix, we have seen her grow both her skills and confidence. During her placement, we had the opportunity to support her through an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, ensuring that she felt able to work at her full capacity. For Mia, this looked like making accommodations within the office environment, ensuring that instructions are clear, and taking a flexible approach to working from home.
Having Mia as part of our team allowed us to reflect on how we can make Optix a more inclusive business for future disabled/minority employees and clients. Therefore, this year, Mia created a refreshed Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy for us which outlines our ethos and objectives of how we are going to improve the inclusivity of Optix. Since finishing this document, Mia has begun to action educational initiatives in line with the EDI. Last month, she arranged a LGBTQ+ quiz for Pride month and trained the team on how to approach pronouns in a professional setting properly.
As a result of her performance and the positive influence that she has had on the business,
we are pleased to announce that Mia will be continuing as part of the team alongside her studies. We are excited to see how Mia continues to action the EDI objectives and will continue to delight, support and engage with clients as her design and marketing skills expand.
