It actually took a sustained campaign of prodding and nagging by staff to persuade directors Alastair Banks and James Dawkins to enter the Employer of the Year category in this year’s awards.
They were glad they bowed to that pressure in the end when they were called to the stage to accept the winners’ award, following a public vote, along with joint winners Rentshield.
We have always maintained that our success is down to the quality of the people who work for and represent us, and we don’t recruit some of the brightest minds in web design and online marketing just to be seen and not heard.
Ever since Optix started in 1999 we have sought to cultivate a working environment that encourages self-expression and creative thinking, supports professional and personal development and is a stimulating place to be.
Here are just some of the reasons Optix’s 14 members of staff identified as making it such a good place to work:
- Regular team building activities – From Segway tours of Haldon Forest to Thanksgiving cook-offs, nothing (well…almost nothing!) is off limits
- Twice monthly team lunches at some of Exeter’s most popular eateries
- Monthly team meetings where staff have a chance to express their views on key company decisions in a relaxed and informal setting
- Monthly performance-related bonuses so that staff share in the company’s success
And the accolades didn’t end there; Optix director and co-founder Alastair was also named as winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
It was fitting that Alastair’s contribution to Exeter’s business community was recognised at the university where he and James first set up Optix Solutions while still students 14 years ago.
The award topped a memorable few months for Alastair, who was also married to Lizz in April. Congratulations all round Al!
