Next March, our Head of Development at Optix Solutions, Nick Watson will be plummeting 10,000ft to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign…Crazy we know, but it’s all for a fantastic cause.
Nick will be among 100 daring individuals that have signed up as part of ‘Team 100’ who will carry out the skydive on the 1st and 2nd of March 2013. Previously in 2012 the skydiving challenge raised a staggering £84,000 for the charity and they are hoping to make it just as successful this year.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a muscle-wasting condition that causes muscles to weaken and waste over time; this eventually leads to severe disability meaning few individuals make it to their 30th birthday. Back in 2010 Nick lost a dear friend Bertie Brookman, who gave up his fight to the condition at the tender age of 23. Ever since, Nick and a dedicated group of Bertie’s closest friends have been raising awareness for the charity and so far have raised a staggering £16,000. Visit www.bertie23.co.uk for more.
This is to be Nick’s biggest challenge for Muscular Dystrophy yet despite previously cycling from London to Paris, climbing the 3 National peaks and taking on various other exciting but also highly strenuous activities. Here’s what he had to say: ‘I don’t like heights and I don’t like being out of control, so a skydive sounded like the perfect challenge’
With ground-breaking research it is hoped that a treatment will soon be on the horizon which is why the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign need your help to allow this work to continue.
