It was ten years ago last month that James Dawkins and Alastair Banks, two driven, recently graduated 20-year-old entrepreneurs, decided to start Optix Solutions.
Both wanted to be their own bosses and had identified a gap in the website design and internet services market while still studying at Exeter University.
Together they saw the potential of a business that not only produced eye-catching and user-friendly websites for business, but could also establish long-term relationships with clients by providing expert, bespoke services that maximised the potential of rapidly evolving web-based technology to ensure positive returns on client’s investment.
Over the past decade Optix have thrived while others have fallen by the wayside. Innovation and its core philosophy of always striving to exceed their customers’ expectations has marked Optix out from its competitors, allowing the company to go from strength to strength despite the bursting of the ‘Dot Com Bubble’ in 2004 and the current deep recession.
“We still get a massive buzz from developing relationships, helping clients understand how they can realise their full potential and then seeing all of the hard work we devote to them pay off,” says Alastair.
“Also seeing such a great team develop around James and I has been very rewarding.”
Two has become twelve. Optix has assembled a creative and expert team to cover every aspect of online management, from Content Management Systems and content writing services to Intranets and Extranets, Ecommerce, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), pay-per click advertising, email and mobile marketing and Social Media strategies.

Optix‘s reputation for solution delivery and unrivalled commitment to service has not gone unnoticed. In 2007 the Urban Planters website won Best Franchise Website Design and last year the company were finalists in the Federation of Small Business’s Business Enterprise Award, recognition for its continuous progression as a company.
And of the future?
